Evening Elephants

  • Brighton Music Hall 158 Brighton Avenue Boston, Massachusetts, 02134 United States (map)

tour: Follow The Itch Tour

rec-rated: 9/10

comments: Love this band! They started a little late, after 9:30pm, but played a solid set of newer songs and older favorites. The music was great, but honestly, the in-between chatter was just as entertaining. Sam Boggs, the lead singer of Evening Elephants, has such a great personality, and his banter had everyone laughing throughout the night.

They came out on stage with a whole box of beers and basically spent the night jamming, drinking, and having a good time. There was something so fun and unpretentious about it all. It felt less like a formal concert and more like hanging out with a group of friends who happen to make really good music. You could tell the band genuinely enjoys playing together, and that energy carried through the entire set.

The venue was nowhere near full on a Tuesday night, but I honestly think that worked in their favor. The smaller crowd made everything feel more intimate, and there was plenty of room to relax, sing along, and enjoy the music. My friend Jack shot the show (thanks for the free ticket, Jack!), and despite not knowing the band too well beforehand, he left saying he would definitely see them again.

This was my second time seeing Evening Elephants, and Sam actually remembered me from their last Boston show, which was such a cool moment. The band stuck around after the show to sign merch, take pictures, and chat with fans. They clearly care about the people who come out to see them, and that kind of connection makes supporting them feel even more personal.

I really hope they keep touring because I will absolutely be there again. I do wish I had gotten a photo pass this time, but honestly, I was too busy singing along, enjoying my beer(s), and taking in the show. Sometimes you just have to put the camera down and enjoy being a fan.
